Usamos los adjetivos y sustantivos para la redacción de oraciones que hacen descripción de algo en particular. Cada objeto a ser descrito tiene una medida determinada así, la comida se mide en "Grams, Kilograms, Ounce, Pounds", para los líquidos usamos "Quart, Liter, Gallon, Pint".
Examples:
a. It is fifty meters long.
b. It is sixty centimeters in width.
c. It is sixty centimeters wide.
En el caso de las oraciones b y c tienen el mismo significado, pero nótese que al usar los sustantivos como Width usamos la preposicion "in". Veamos otro ejemplo:
The mattress is 1 meter wide.
The mettress is 1 meter in width.
